Hot Salted Buttered Bourbon
Hot Salted Buttered Bourbon. This delicious, indulgent and cozy drink has all the holiday feels. I’m not big on spirits, but if a drink tastes like cake, I’m in! The base of this warm and fuzzy drink is a fragrant spiced butter that can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator. Salted butter enhances and balances the sweet butterscotch flavor. Feel free to add more bourbon if you like (and if whiskey doesn’t float your boat, use rum instead). Teetotalers (and kids) can enjoy it without the alcohol.
Recipe
Hot Salted Buttered Bourbon
(Serves 2)
Ingredients
For the Spiced Butter -
60 gms salted butter, softened to room temperature
4 tbsp brown sugar or honey
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp ground allspice
1/4 tsp ground cloves
2-3 tbsp bourbon
1/2 cup boiling water
2 cinnamon sticks (optional)
Method
To make the Spiced Butter - Whisk together the butter, brown sugar/honey, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice and cloves until creamy.
Add the bourbon and the boiling water. Stir well to mix and strain.
Pour into two mugs, add a cinnamon stick in each and serve immediately.
Tip - Triple the batch of the spiced butter (use a handheld mixer to blend in the vanilla and spices). Store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Scoop out a dollop and mix in some bourbon and hot water whenever you are in the mood for a toasty nightcap.
